Story pLANNING

Since this is a project that revolves around the topic of suicide, it was important to research how suicide is portrayed in film media and the impact it can have. Glorification, romanticization, or showing suicide as the ideal solution can lead to imitation. Portraying things realistically and showing that it's good to reach out for help can lead to deterrence. The World Health Organization created a guidebook for filmmakers who are making content about suicide, which was referenced throughout the project:

A finalized treatment gave a good starting point for the shot list and storyboards, but the dialogue would change frequently throughout the project

For the final storyboard, it was decided that the extra characters should be cut out to maintain focus on Ariana. The note was also cut out because it's a cliche and perpetuates the idea that there has to be a reason behind these actions when there isn't always one. The relationship between Arianna and the Water Lady was developed more. The Water Lady became more sensitive and caring, and the project got longer.
